Psychological Assessments
Psycho-educational Evaluation
A psychoeducational evaluation is a comprehensive assessment that helps identify a student’s learning strengths and challenges. It typically entails the gathering of a comprehensive history so that we can gain a full picture of the student’s experiences and needs, as well as observation and interview. This type of evaluation also incorporates cognitive, academic, and social, emotional, and behavioral testing. These evaluations can be essential in diagnosing learning disabilities, ADHD, Autism, Other Health Impairments, or other conditions, and in guiding effective educational planning and interventions.
Independent Educational Evaluation (IEE)
An IEE incorporates all of the assessment included in a psycho-educational evaluation (described above). However, an IEE is often funded by a student’s school district. More information is available here: What is an IEE? – Feel free to contact us for a free consultation if you have any questions about this process.
Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA)
A FBA is a process used to identify the reasons behind challenging behaviors. By observing the behavior and gathering information from various sources, the FBA helps determine what triggers and maintains the behavior and what purpose it serves for the individual. This understanding guides the development of effective strategies to reduce the behavior and support positive alternatives.
Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP)
A BIP is a personalized plan designed to reduce challenging behaviors and teach positive, replacement behaviors. Based on the results of a Functional Behavioral Assessment, the BIP outlines specific goals, strategies, and supports to help the individual succeed across settings, such as school, home, or the community.
ADHD/Executive Functioning
An ADHD/executive functioning assessment provides a detailed look at how an individual manages focus, impulse control, organization, planning, and follow-through. Assessment results help determine whether challenges are related to ADHD or other factors impacting attention and self-regulation. The results offer valuable insights into how the brain processes information and manages tasks, helping guide targeted strategies for success at school, work, and home.
Intelligence Quotient (IQ)
An IQ assessment measures cognitive abilities such as reasoning, problem-solving, memory, and verbal skills. It provides an overall picture of how an individual thinks and learns, highlighting both strengths and areas that may need support. IQ testing can be useful for identifying giftedness, intellectual disabilities, or informing placement decisions and educational planning.
Special Circumstances Instructional Assessment
A Special Circumstances Instructional Assessment is a focused evaluation used to understand why a student is struggling and what changes can help right away. It looks closely at how a child is learning in the classroom, especially when progress has stalled or typical interventions are not working. Rather than being a full special education assessment, it provides clear, practical recommendations to guide instruction, support targeted interventions, and help schools and families make informed next steps.
